The Divas are proud to announce our new partnership with the Epicurean Institute of Italy. Our exciting initiative will allow us to help one of our “Diva In Training” Scholarship recipients further her studies to become a Sommelier. This first scholarship has been awarded to Yanique Bradford of Nashville, Tennessee. The Divas met Yanique a few years ago at the South Beach Wine and Food Festival when she was working for Southern Wine and Spirits as an educator. Yanique’s goal is to become the first African American Master Sommelier.
The Sommelier diploma is one of the highest distinction a professional can attain in fine wine and beverage service. Testing is focused on the areas needed for superior beverage department management, which include Tasting, Theory, Practical and Dining Room Application, and also encompasses spirits, beers, cigars as well as global wine knowledge.
This scholarship furthers our commitment to education by sponsoring women and minorities who are actively pursuing their sommelier credentials. “We strongly believe the knowledge sommeliers share with consumers is as useful and important as the information coming from the winery experts. We have a goal of making Americans, particularly women and minorities, wine savvy, not wine snobby” consumers so this is one more way to change the industry one bottle at a time.
